Successful Rosthern Community Forum and Reception
On April 7 in Rosthern, the Saskatchewan Arts Alliance with the Station Arts Centre hosted an evening reception and forum. The successful event welcomed people from Rosthern and the surrounding areas including Prince Albert and Warman. The community was very positive and had many brags they wanted to share such as their successful projects with the youth of the community, Arts in the Alley, the multitude of dance organizations that have a large number of new Canadians, and successful fundraisers.

Watch for your SAA Membership Renewal Notice
SAA memberships run for one year, June 1st to May 31st. Renewal notices will be sent out in May. Membership is open to all arts organizations, practicing artists, and individuals that support the SAA’s mandate. 2016 marked our 30th year and membership in the SAA is as important as ever as it strengthens our collective voice and helps us to advocate on issues significant to you in the arts and culture sector. You can become a new member or renew your membership online here.
?Call for Nominations: #GGArts
Members of the visual arts, media arts and fine craft communities: Submit a nomination to the prestigious GGArts awards and help the Canada Council for the Arts to promote artistic excellence. These awards recognize artists who have had remarkable careers in the visual and media arts and fine crafts, and an individual or group who has made an outstanding contribution in these fields.
The nomination period is now open with a deadline of June 1st, 2017. For more information: Read the guidelines.
The Government of Canada announces eight appointments to the Canada Council for the Arts.
The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced the appointment of eight part-time members to the Board of Directors of the Canada Council for the Arts. Congratulations to Saskatchewan author Yan Martel, and also to David W. Binet (Ontario), Cheryl Hickman (Newfoundland and Labrador), Sidney Ben Nind (Northwest Territories), Jesse Wente (Ontario), Jennifer Dorner (Quebec), Beverley K. Foy (Alberta), and Nathalie Bondil (Quebec). For more information.
{Re}conciliation Supports 16 Additional Arts Projects
The Canada Council, the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation and The Circle on Philanthropy and Aboriginal Peoples in Canada are proud to support 16 additional art projects following the second, and final competition of the {Re}conciliation Initiative. Explore their stories here.
Art Gallery of Swift Current Seeks Public Programming Assistant
The City of Swift Current is seeking an individual for the summer student position of Public Programming Assistant for the Art Gallery. This position is open to applications from any person who holds the arts related qualifications required. Closing date is May 5, 2017.
The wage for this position is $17.61 per hour in accordance with the City of Swift Current – CUPE Local 183 Collective Agreement. For more information, visit their website.
Creative Kids Signature fundraiser, Nourish, a Unique Dining Experience in Regina

#TransformSK Report Now Available
The #TransformSK report — tabled jointly by the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce, Saskatchewan Construction Association, Saskatchewan Mining Association, Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan, and the Saskatchewan division of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters — outlines 4 pillars – education, health, the economy and diversity – and 45 calls to action including calls around tourism, cultural heritage, education, entrepreneurship and social impact . Common Threads: Weaving a Stronger Nonprofit Sector
“Common Threads: Weaving a Stronger Non-profit Sector” is a FREE conference that will take place on June 9, 2017 at Luther College at the University of Regina. This second annual conference is co-hosted by VSSN and the Saskatchewan Non-profit Partnership (SNP) and will focus on new developments and challenges in advocacy, policy and engagement. Featuring Bruce McDonald (president and CEO, Imagine Canada), Dr. Cindy Hanson (Faculty of Education, University of Regina), Dr. Gloria DeSantis (founder of VSSN, Faculty of Justice Studies, University of Regina), and Jeph Maystruck (co-founder, Strategy Lab).
