 2013 – 2014 Provincial Budget – Balanced Growth

Today, Honourable Ken Krawetz, Minister of Finance, delivered the 2013 – 2014 Provincial Budget – Balanced Growth – commenting that Saskatchewan’s “growing economy allows Government to invest in the arts and creative industries”.

Legislation will be introduced in the spring sitting to establish Creative Saskatchewan which is to “assist in the promotion, marketing and investment of Saskatchewan’s creative industry and its respective products, including support for film and screen based producers.” Creative Saskatchewan is assigned a line item ($6.5 million) with $5 million for an “Investment Program to support growth and development in the areas of music and sound recording, film and television, digital media, visual arts, publishing, crafts, theatre and dance.”

The Saskatchewan Arts Board received an additional $322,000 – a 5% increase. The reduction of the Support for Provincial Arts and Cultural Organizations line item includes money transferred to Creative Saskatchewan to support the Creative Industries Sector Organizations. This line item also includes the Culture on the Go program which is to be continued although details are not known yet.

Minister Krawetz also announced that Government is providing $100,000 in new funding to match the City of Regina’s commitment to support operations at the RCMP Heritage Centre, and $50,000 in new funding to support the development of a Military History project.
