Modern Grantmaking: A Cross-Sector Conversation
What happens when funders and the people they fund sit down for a real conversation about how grantmaking actually works?
Join the Saskatchewan Arts Alliance and Ivy + Dean Consulting for a public conversation inspired by Modern Grantmaking: A Guide for Funders Who Believe Better is Possible.
Over the past five weeks, two groups have been meeting in parallel. One is made up of funders working within granting systems, and the other of artists and arts administrators who regularly navigate those systems. Together, they’ve been reflecting on what resonates in the book, what feels challenging in a Saskatchewan context, and what kinds of change might actually be possible. This event brings those conversations into one shared space.
Wednesday, May 14 | 1:00–2:30 p.m. (SK time) | Online via Zoom | FREE | Register here
About the Event
Hosted by Modern Grantmaking authors Gemma Bull and Tom Steinberg, the session will start with a short introduction to some of the book’s key ideas. From there, we’ll move into a facilitated panel conversation featuring participants from both cohorts.
Together, they’ll share their experiences of grantmaking from both sides of the table, speaking candidly about what’s working, what isn’t, and where there is room to do better.
The panel will close with time for questions and open discussion, inviting attendees to join the conversation.
This is not a presentation of solutions or best practices. It is an invitation into a conversation that is already underway. One that is grounded in real experiences, shaped by local context, and open to possibility.
Who Should Attend: Everyone is Welcome!
This event is open to:
- Artists and arts administrators
- Funders and granting organizations
- Non-profit leaders and staff
- Anyone curious about how funding systems shape the arts and cultural sector
About the Book
Modern Grantmaking: A Guide for Funders Who Believe Better is Possible is written for anyone working in the world of grantmaking, whether in public agencies, private foundations, or corporate giving.
Authors Gemma Bull and Tom Steinberg argue that every grantmaker can and should be a reformer. The book explores how funding practices can become more accessible, more transparent, and more grounded in the realities of the people and organizations they aim to support.
