HOLIDAY HOURS

The SAA office will be closed December 24 to January 4.

SAVE THESE DATES

The 2008 Arts Congress will be held in Regina on May 2nd and 3rd. The Annual General Meeting will be on September 20th. Please plan to attend these important events.

STANDING COMMITTEE

The Standing Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs and Justice is the legislative policy field committee responsible for Tourism, Parks, Culture, and Sport. (In the last government, Human Services looked after the arts.) Committee members are Fred Bradshaw, Greg Brkich, Michael Chisholm, Delbert Kirsch, Trent Wotherspoon, Deb Higgins and Jocelyn Schreimer. The chair, deputy chair and Steering Committee will be elected today at the next committee meeting.

ENTERPRISE SASKATCHEWAN

Bill No. 2, An Act Respecting Enterprise Saskatchewan was tabled in the legislature yesterday. Enterprise Sask. will have a Board of Directors and Sector Teams. Arts and culture is not included on the Board, however it is included as one of the 15 sector teams that will be established to identify barriers to growth. The sector teams are:

  • Energy production
  • Agriculture
  • Tourism
  • Forestry
  • Advanced education research and development
  • Life sciences synchrotron science and information technology
  • Environment
  • Construction
  • Trucking and transportation
  • Financial services
  • Manufacturing
  • Mining
  • Co-operatives
  • Arts and Culture.
  • Other sectors may be added as identified.

The Board of Directors will include the Minister of Saskatchewan Enterprise and Innovation, one member of Executive Council, one member at large and one member nominated by prescribed organization(s) representing each of:

  • business
  • labour
  • Aboriginal persons
  • rural municipalities
  • urban municipalities
  • post-secondary educational institutions
  • co-operatives
  • resource industry in Saskatchewan
  • agricultural producers in Saskatchewan
  • one other person.

The Backgrounder released by Government states that in late December a letter will be issued to stakeholders groups across the province requesting nominations for the Board. There were no details on the selection of sector teams.
