Join us at our Annual General Meeting and Community Forum at 11 AM on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the MacKenzie Art GalleryThis event is a great opportunity to network with other artists and arts organizations. It is also an opportunity to express your thoughts on the issues that matter most to help our Board of Directors shape our future initiatives. The forum begins at 11:00 am followed by a catered lunch and the AGM. Please RSVP to help us plan for catering.

STEPHANE DION AND RALPH GOODALE CONSULT WITH SAA AND MEMBERSHIP

On August 21, Liberal MPs Stépane Dion and Ralph Goodale consulted with SAA’s membership on national issues effecting Saskatchewan’s arts sector. Topics introduced were tax measures, copyright including the Artist Resale Right, and re-establishing investment in the arts. Please feel free to forward any thoughts you might have on any issues facing Saskatchewan Artists to info@artsalliance.sk.ca.


CREATIVE SASKATCHEWAN – BOARD NOMINATIONS

Creative Saskatchewan is currently looking to fill a mid-term vacancy of one Director on its Board. Interested members of the public can find more information on the Creative Saskatchewan and submit applications electronically to nominations@creativesask.ca by August 29, 2014.


CANADIAN ARTS COALITION TO BRING THREE RECOMMENDATIONS

The Canadian Arts Coalition brought forth three recommendations for the development of the 2015 federal budget:

  1. Increase the Canada Council for the Arts’ Parliamentary appropriation by $35 million in 2015 with a long-term goal of reaching $300 million.
  2. Increase Canada’s presence on the world stage for 2017 by establishing a $25 million pilot program over three years at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development for Canada’s 150th birthday.
  3. Investigate new revenue models to support a comprehensive Canadian Cultural Digital Strategy that would enable the creation, dissemination and engagement of Canadian cultural content online.

These recommendations were identified as priorities by 42 member associations during consultations held in April and May. For more information.

Creative Saskatchewan, a new agency dedicated to the growth and commercial viability of Saskatchewan’s creative industries, is holding a series of presentations in various Saskatchewan communities.

CALL FOR PRESENTERS – FIRST NATIONS LANGUAGE KEEPERS CONFERENCE

The Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Centre (SICC) is hosting their annual First Nations Language Keepers Conference on Nov. 26 & 27, 2014, in Saskatoon, and is currently looking for presenters to conduct workshops or plenary sessions.


JOHN HOBDAY AWARDS IN ARTS MANAGEMENT

The John Hobday Award in Arts Management offers up to two awards of $10,000 annually. Arts managers from any artistic discipline supported by the Canada Council may apply for the awards, which are intended for professional development, mentoring and related purposes. OCTOBER 28: 2014 LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR’S ARTS AWARDS

Presented by the Saskatchewan Arts Board, the Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Awards is a celebration of individuals, groups, and organizations in all arts disciplines. The evening includes performances by Saskatchewan artists and features artwork from the Arts Board’s Permanent Collection.
