Add your Voice for a Fully Funded SK Arts

The Saskatchewan arts sector is facing increasing public scrutiny and funding pressure. Recent media coverage has amplified harmful narratives that frame the arts as frivolous or wasteful – undermining the essential role that artists and arts organizations play in our communities.

In response, the Saskatchewan Arts Alliance is launching a public letter-writing campaign calling on the Government of Saskatchewan to increase SK Arts’ base funding by $6 million. This letter will reach out to all of our representatives:

  • Your local MLA
  • Premier Scott Moe
  • Carla Beck, Leader of the Opposition
  • Alana Ross, Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport
  • Darcy Warrington, Opposition Shadow Minister for Parks, Culture and Sport
  • Jim Reiter, Finance Minister
  • Trent Wotherspoon, Shadow Minister for Finance.

This is a critical opportunity to show elected officials that artists, arts workers, and arts supporters from across the province care deeply about the future of public arts funding.

Why This Matters

SK Arts has not received a meaningful increase in base funding in over a decade, despite rising costs and growing demand. Without increased investment, Saskatchewan risks losing:

  • Artistic talent and creative workers
  • Community-led programs, festivals, and exhibitions
  • Equitable access to the arts in rural, northern, and underserved communities

A $6 million increase would:

  • Stabilize funding for organizations of all sizes
  • Support sustainable careers for Saskatchewan artists and arts workers
  • Leverage additional investment from federal, municipal, and private partners
  • Protect the long-term health and vibrancy of our cultural sector

SK Arts–funded organizations generate approximately $92 million in annual economic output, and the broader arts and culture sector contributes over $1 billion to Saskatchewan’s GDP. This is not just about culture – it’s about jobs, community resilience, and the identity of our province.
