2003 – 04 Provincial Budget: Building for the Future

Hon. Jim Melenchuk presented the 2003-04 Provincial Budget today. Below are extracts taken from the Estimates. The complete budget can be found at www.gov.sk.ca/finance/budget/budget03/2003papers.htmrnrnIn a pre-budget briefing, Joanne Crofford Minister Culture, Youth and Recreation, stated that third-party funding would remain at the same levels as last year. Crofford announced that the Saskatchewan Arts Board would receive an additional $100,000 although we do not know the source of these funds and are not sure how the money can be used.

Also of interest is the commitment of $20 million over the next 3 years to centennial legacy projects which we expect the culture community will be able to access. Legacy projects will be for healthier and more active people; stronger working and playing relationships, especially with the Aboriginal community; improving culture, sports and recreation infrastructure; and showcasing the province. rnrnThrough CommunityNet, high-speed internet service will be extended to residents in small communities.rnrnIn her address, Crofford mentioned that the community could expect announcements on the much anticipated Arts Stabilization Fund and the Cultural Policy sometime soon.
