NB – Premier’s Task Force on Status of the Artist established

Scope:

“The Government of New Brunswick established the Premier’s Task Force on Status of the Artist to explore measures to address socioeconomic conditions of professional artists in New Brunswick.

The mandate of the Task Force is to put forward recommendations on measures or legislation that will improve the socioeconomic status of professional artists. The Task Force is comprised of professional artists from across the province, representatives from artist associations as well as representatives from key government departments.

During its preliminary meetings, the Task Force studied an in-depth analysis report containing extensive research on Status of the Artist legislation in Canada and internationally. From this report, the Task Force constructed the following four major themes: 1) Labour Relations, 2) Taxation, 3) Remuneration (non-taxation) and 4) Social Protection.

In January 2016, the Task Force established four sub-committees and assigned each of them one of the above themes. These sub-committees are mandated to complete an in-depth analysis and develop strategies and measures that will improve the socioeconomic status of professional artists in New Brunswick.

The Task Force’s goal is to submit a final report to the Premier in early 2017. “
