Who We Are
The Saskatchewan Arts Alliance (the SAA) acts to ensure the lively existence and continued growth of the arts and cultural industries in Saskatchewan.
The SAA is a collective voice for arts organizations, arts workers and artists in our province.
We are a membership-based organization, representing over 60 arts organizations with a collective reach of 8,000 individuals across the province.
We collaborate closely with the provincial government and arts funding agencies.
We initiate and lead research on the economic, social, and cultural contributions of our members and the arts sector. The SAA is the only organization in Saskatchewan devoted to supporting in-depth primary research on our provincial arts community.
We advance policies and practices that improve conditions for the arts and cultural industries.
We are a non-partisan, sector-wide advocate for public and private support for the arts, artists, and arts education.
What we know
We know the arts matter. They benefit individuals and communities. Everything is connected. Great art engages and inspires everyone from children with crayons to professionals with multi-media installations; local square dancers to international ballerinas; quilting grandmothers to cutting-edge fashion designers.
Here at the SAA our objectives and actions focus on the following:
- Arts Benefit Everyone
- Every Child Deserves an Arts Education
- The Arts Innovate
- Invest in the Arts
SAA works to strengthen, support and advance the arts through advocacy, policy development and proactive leadership. Since its establishment in 1986, SAA has been a prominent advocate on issues affecting artists and the arts, including public funding of the arts, provincial and federal arts policies, freedom of expression and artists’ working conditions. SAA led efforts to ensure arts community participation in the Saskatchewan Arts Board and was the main proponent in the establishment of the Status of the Artist Act (2002).
