Incorporated in 1996 and originally launched in Vancouver, B.C. by Emma Payne and a group of like-minded visionary women, Wired Woman is a Canadian registered non-profit society with a mission to encourage women to explore opportunities, build successful careers, and become a driving force in science, technology and new media.
We achieve our mission by establishing a strong network of national volunteers who design, develop and deliver monthly programs to members and the community at-large. These programs are overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors leading activities in Toronto and Vancouver, and the corporate sponsors who partner with us. Programs and activities support the three goals of the society: networking, education and mentoring.
Our vision is to empower women in the science, technology and new media fields by providing opportunities to network, grow and share through quality one-on-one mentoring.
By focusing on exchanging ideas rather than dictating doctrine, we engage our members in generating activities and content. We spark conversations by bringing together thought leaders and best practices with those in the trenches trying to make sense of it all. Our services include learning, networking, and discussion for our members through a variety of online and offline events and media.
AIMS provides members with:
- Learning & Discussion – events and online communications that combine insight and commentary from experts with input and discussion from the membership
- Community – a way to connect with peers, create alliances, and develop new business opportunities
- Inspiration & Passion – that indefinable ‘energy” that is generated when smart, savvy industry professionals come together to exchange ideas.
